Trauma, PTSD & EMDR Therapy In Shepparton
A sound, place or ordinary conversation can bring a traumatic experience back into focus. You may find yourself on alert at home, at work or when you’re trying to sleep. Carrying that tension takes effort, and talking about what happened can feel daunting. There’s room to start with what is affecting you today.
Collette Caffrey, a registered psychologist in Shepparton, offers trauma-informed therapy. Your first conversations with Collette can focus on how you’re managing now and what helps you feel steadier.
When Trauma & PTSD Support May Be Helpful
People enquire after a single event, repeated experiences or a long period of stress. You might notice distressing memories, avoidance, sleep difficulties, feeling numb or difficulty trusting that you’re safe. An intake appointment gives us time to understand your circumstances without expecting you to decide whether a particular diagnosis applies.
Making Sense Of Your Current Responses
We’ll explore what triggers distress, how it affects work, relationships or daily routines, and what already helps. You can start with what’s happening now. You’ll have a say in what you discuss and when.
How Trauma Therapy & EMDR Are Considered
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing. Collette has training in EMDR and may consider it after the intake and formulation.
What EMDR Involves
EMDR uses guided eye movements or other alternating stimulation while you focus on a distressing memory. Before any EMDR work, we’ll discuss your goals, readiness and ways to manage distress, and provide a separate consent form. You can enquire without deciding whether it’s right for you.
Choosing An Approach Together
Collette also draws on approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy and chair work where appropriate. We’ll discuss the work with you and review its pace as your needs change. At times, the first steps focus on feeling more settled in daily life before any focused trauma work.

What To Expect At Your Psychology Appointments
Your First 50-Minute Appointment
The first appointment is usually a 50-minute intake. We’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant history, strengths and supports. You can tell us what you need help with without going through every detail of an experience at the first meeting.
Planning & Reviewing Therapy Together
Collette develops a psychological formulation with you, considering what may have contributed to your difficulties, what may be maintaining them and the strengths you can draw on. We’ll agree on a starting point and review goals, pace and appointment frequency throughout the work. There’s no fixed number of sessions.
Trauma Therapy Fees, Referrals & Medicare Rebates
A 50-minute psychology appointment costs $270. You can self-refer. #Thoughts doesn’t bulk bill or offer concession rates. The full fee confirms the appointment; any eligible rebate is claimed after payment.
