Child & Adolescent Psychology In Shepparton
School mornings have become a struggle, and by the afternoon your child seems to have little left for things they usually enjoy. You may be hearing one account from school and seeing something quite different at home. That can leave you wondering what you’ve missed and what would actually help. You can bring all of that uncertainty to the first conversation.
Collette Caffrey is a registered psychologist and teacher who works with children, adolescents and families. You can talk with Collette about what happens at home, what school has noticed and what your child says about their day. That fuller picture can help guide the first steps of psychology support.
When A Child Or Teenager May Need Psychology Support
Families get in touch about worry, low mood, anger, withdrawal, sleep, school attendance, friendships or changes in family routines. A teenager might be finding it hard to keep up at school while saying very little about how they’re feeling. You can bring what you’ve noticed, even if you’re unsure how to describe the concern.
Understanding Home, School & Friendships
We’ll ask what the young person is experiencing across settings, what’s already helping and where daily life is becoming harder. School information can be useful when it answers a specific question. We’ll discuss consent before contacting educators or other professionals.
How We Work With Parents, Caregivers & Young People
Parents and caregivers contribute information about development, strengths, routines and what they’ve noticed over time. How they’re involved in appointments depends on the young person’s age and circumstances. With teenagers, we’ll explain privacy and information sharing at the outset so everyone understands how the work will proceed.
Support Informed By Education Experience
Collette has worked in childcare, primary teaching, literacy coaching and school leadership. That background helps when a family needs to understand how learning demands, classroom routines and relationships at school affect a child’s day. You can read more about Collette’s background.

What To Expect At Your Child’s Appointments
The First 50-Minute Intake Appointment
The intake explores developmental and medical history, current concerns, strengths and supports. We’ll discuss who should attend and what information to bring when booking. You and your child can describe what’s happening in your own words.
Planning Psychology Support Together
Collette develops a psychological formulation with the young person and family where appropriate. It considers current concerns, strengths, relevant history and the support already around them. We’ll review it together and discuss the next step, including ongoing psychology appointments where appropriate.
Considering A Child Or Adolescent Assessment
An assessment may help clarify learning, attention, development or everyday functioning. Collette provides cognitive, educational, autism, ADHD, functional capacity and emotional or behavioural assessments. The intake helps us identify the question to address. After an assessment, families receive a feedback appointment and written report with findings and practical recommendations.
