Psychologist In Belmont, Geelong

Your child may work hard at school and still come home exhausted, with a teacher raising questions about learning or attention. It can be hard to know which details matter and what kind of help to ask for. Bring the school feedback and what you’ve noticed at home. A careful conversation can help narrow the question and work out whether an assessment would be useful.

Collette Caffrey is a registered psychologist and teacher who offers psychology appointments and assessments for children, adolescents and adults. When learning is part of the question, Collette draws on experience in education to consider what’s happening across home and school. Saturday appointments are available at Belmont Counselling Rooms in Geelong, with assessments prioritised at this location.

What To Expect At Your First Psychology Appointment

01.

Starting With An Intake Appointment

The first appointment is usually a 50-minute intake. We’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant history, strengths and supports. Parents can describe what they’ve noticed at home or school. You can arrive with questions about therapy or assessment without having to choose an approach in advance.

02.

Agreeing On The Next Step

Collette develops a psychological formulation with you to explore what may have contributed to the difficulty, what may be maintaining it and what supports could help. From there, we’ll discuss therapy, assessment or another appropriate pathway. Questionnaires or other measures may be used where they help clarify concerns.
