Loss & Grief Counselling In Shepparton
Some days you get through work and family routines, then a small reminder brings the loss close again. Perhaps a loved one has passed away, a relationship has ended, or your health has changed the future you pictured. Grief can be overwhelming, leaving you unsure what to say or whether you should be feeling differently. We can begin with where things are for you today.
Collette Caffrey is a registered psychologist in Shepparton. In counselling, you can talk with Collette about what you miss, the routines that have changed and the days that feel hardest. There’s no timetable you need to meet. The conversation can follow what matters to you now and help you consider the support you need day to day.
How Loss & Grief Can Affect Everyday Life
Grief can affect sleep, concentration, energy and relationships. A family birthday, a medical appointment or a familiar routine may bring the loss into focus. You might be carrying practical responsibilities while still trying to make sense of what happened.
Grief After The Death Of Someone Close
Losing someone can change how your home, family and daily routines feel. There may be sadness, anger, relief, guilt or moments when you feel very little. We’ll make room for the experience you’re having, including parts that are difficult to say aloud.
Grieving Other Significant Changes
People also grieve the end of a relationship, changes to health, work or identity, and plans that can’t unfold as expected. You can ask for support even if others haven’t recognised what you’ve lost.
How Grief Counselling Is Shaped Around You
Our work begins with your account of the loss, what matters to you and which parts of life feel most difficult now. We may explore ways to manage a demanding routine, talk about relationships that have changed or consider what you want to carry forward.
Collette can draw on approaches including narrative therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy where appropriate. We’ll discuss the approach together and review what’s useful over time.

What To Expect At Your Psychology Appointments
Your First 50-Minute Appointment
The first appointment is usually a 50-minute intake. We’ll ask about the loss, your current concerns, relevant history, strengths and the people or resources around you. You can explain how the loss is affecting life now and share more of the story when you’re ready.
Planning & Reviewing Support Together
Collette develops a psychological formulation with you. It brings together what may be adding to your distress and what could help you manage day to day. We’ll review it together before agreeing on a starting point. There’s no fixed number of sessions; we’ll talk about frequency and next steps as the work continues.
