Psychological Support for Anxiety, Depression & OCD in Shepparton

It can take real effort to get through an ordinary day when worry won’t let up, low mood drains your energy or unwanted thoughts keep demanding attention. Keeping up with work or family responsibilities can leave little energy for anything else. It’s important to talk about what is weighing on you most right now. You don’t need to suffer in silence, there is hope.

Collette Caffrey is a registered psychologist in Shepparton who supports children, adolescents and adults with these concerns. At an initial appointment, Collette will ask which moments are hardest, what you’ve already tried and what you hope might change. You can work together on where to begin, one concern at a time.

How Anxiety, Depression & OCD May Affect Daily Life

Anxiety & Avoidance

Anxiety may feel like constant worry, tension or panic. You might begin avoiding a place, conversation or task because you expect something to go wrong. We can explore when anxiety appears, how you respond to it and the effect it’s having on your routine.

Depression & Low Mood

Low mood can affect sleep, energy, motivation and your connection with other people. Some people withdraw from activities they used to enjoy. Others keep going to work or school while finding that each day takes far more effort. Understanding what has changed helps shape the work ahead.

Intrusive Thoughts & Compulsions

Unwanted thoughts, images or urges can be distressing. Repeated actions or mental rituals may follow as a way to ease that distress. When the pattern takes up time or disrupts work, school or relationships, psychological support can help you understand what’s happening and consider appropriate strategies.

How Therapy Is Tailored To Your Concerns

The focus depends on your experience and what you want help with. We might look at the worry behind an avoided situation, what has become harder to manage since your mood changed, or how intrusive thoughts and repetitive actions affect your day. This understanding guides the strategies we discuss together.

Collette draws on approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative therapy. We’ll talk about the approach that fits your concerns and review what’s useful as the work progresses.

What To Expect At Your Psychology Appointments

01.

Your First 50-Minute Appointment

The first appointment is usually a 50-minute intake. We’ll ask about your current concerns, relevant history, strengths and what you’ve already tried. You can also tell us about any previous therapy and what you’d like to do differently this time.

02.

Planning & Reviewing Therapy Together

After the intake, Collette develops a psychological formulation with you. This is a practical explanation of factors that may have contributed to the difficulty, what may be keeping it going, and the strengths and supports you can draw on. We’ll review it together before deciding where to begin. There’s no fixed number of sessions; we revisit goals and appointment frequency as your needs change.

Psychology Fees, Referrals & Medicare Rebates

A 50-minute psychology appointment costs $270. You can self-refer and book without a GP referral. #Thoughts doesn’t bulk bill or offer concession rates. The full fee is paid to confirm your appointment; any eligible rebate is claimed afterwards.

With an eligible referral, you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate of $101.55 for an eligible 50-minute session. A GP can arrange a referral under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. We can explain what information is needed when you enquire.
